The Impromptus
First production in Lyon 2006 - since four years "The Impromptus" are a form of regular meetings in Lyon between professional artists of Image Aiguë, young comedians in Lyon and surroundings and invited artists acting under the direction of Christiane Véricel.
Different variations of the Impromptus have been played more than 35 times in France and in Europe : Célestins Théâtre of Lyon, Tango de Soie, Salle Paul Garcin – Lyon / La Renaissance – Oullins / Le Polaris – Corbas / The Théâtre des Deux Rives – Rouen / The Théâtre de la Butte – Cherbourg / The Festival Reminiscenj - Krakow
Directors’ note
« Impromptu » : it’s a way of saying that it’s spontaneous and not prepared, well not quite. In fact, it’s an important part of our work that we never show and different from rehearsals and presentations of performances. However, we always start our encounters with these “impromptus” because these get together with different but unique persons are, from the beginning, the nourishing foundation of the stories performed by Image Aiguë since its creation.
On the stage, the comedians of the company are faced with other personalities, other cultures and artists discovering our universe.… We work in the districts with associations and groups of amateurs, (dancers, singers and musicians …) in order to lead the children and their families to the world of performance, reflecting at the same time differences and also a common conscience. This unexpected crossbreeding filled with adventures leads the Company and other spectators towards new stories and emotions. It’s the way to let the audience feel the rejoicing of theatre and experience at the same time, as the acting progresses, how the comedian becomes a character.
At the heart of the stories, we work on the “cohabitation” or how to live together on stage. This is to talk with humour about the difficulties to mix with the other person, to accept his gestures, his vocabulary and his attitudes. There are space and sensations to share and to explore with the language of Image Aiguë.
