The stage, the playfield of stories

The stage: a few lines on the floor delineate and materialize the place of imaginary and of invention. We don’t only have to invent using our brains but we also have to think in volumes with living characters. The performed situations are felt in a physical way: it’s “for real” that the young comedians converse with professional, that they stand up to them, dupe them, provoke them, and obey them on the imaginary surface that is the stage.

But these are also situations that don’t count for “the real life”, they are just to practise, an opportunity to play or to dare forbidden or nice situations, playful stories giving real sensations. These are emotional territories that the young comedians explore with the risk attached to the immediate dreamlike, but void of consequences on reality, once out of stage.

The stage, the playfield of stories

According to the psychoanalyst Pierre Salesne, “A child carries in him a universe but he doesn’t always have the possibility to express it in life, to find the space where he can explore it and embody it”. Thus, the role played by the acting and the stage such as Christiane Véricel practises it with Image Aiguë “leaves them a play ground allowing them to live their aggressiveness: it’s a kind of acting with distance created by the stage and the public eye.”

In our performances, the white line sets the frontier between the reality and the imaginary side of the stories. Stage becomes a “field of coincidence” where stories take form and recreate a kind of micro society. Thus, Christiane Véricel explains that "we have to materialize the place where things are allowed by a line and the place, where all of a sudden we are back in a society with rules to be respected. It’s important to be able to make clear, what one can do and how one can live, because each person needs to have an idea of the place where he is. […] We are not doing anything but it’s clear that the stories have to be different from the daily life. On the other hand, as soon as we are in a situation different from reality, in the company for example, it’s true that then we have a different behaviour."
